The ten-day tour is designed to help you experience the natural beauty of North Sumatra. You will observe orangutans in their natural habitat, meet elephants, hike to a volcano, taste local cuisine, and enjoy countless breathtaking views.

Ten-Day In North Sumatra: Itinerary

A brief overview of what you will experience:

  • Day 1: Arrival in Medan, followed by a private transfer to Bukit Lawang and accommodation at your guide’s place.
  • Day 2: Visit the elephant sanctuary. On the way, admire the scenic landscapes of Sumatra, observe local life, and learn how palm oil is processed. After a delicious lunch, relax by the river with a hot spring, then enjoy bathing the elephants.
  • Day 3 + 4: The adventure begins! During an overnight trek in the jungle, you’ll see orangutans and other wildlife in their natural habitat, learn fascinating facts, and enjoy a hearty dinner before falling asleep in a riverside camp surrounded by nature. The next day will feature a shorter trek followed by a ride down the river on traditional rafts.
  • Day 5: It’s time to explore local life! Learn how brown sugar, tempeh, and tofu are produced, as well as how rice and cocoa are grown.
  • Day 6: Hike to Mt. Sibayak, where breathtaking volcanic scenery and stunning views await you. After relaxing in the hot springs, visit traditional Batak Karo houses.
  • Day 7: Transfer to Lake Toba, the largest volcanic lake in the world, with a stop at one of the highest waterfalls in North Sumatra.
  • Day 8-9: Enjoy everything Samosir, an island in the middle of Lake Toba, the world’s largest volcanic lake, has to offer. Visit a stunning waterfall, watch a traditional dance performance, take in the spectacular views, and savor excellent local coffee. Tours of Samosir Island can be done by car, or if you want to experience more adventure, on a scooter.
  • Day 10: Transfer back to Medan or any other destination of your choice by private car or bus.
